Batman Villains - The Riddler

The Riddler is one of the most famous Batman villains of all time and while he doesn't make an appearance in the upcoming Dark Knight movie (or does he) there is no question we will see him again.

Who is the Riddler? Is that the Riddle?

The Riddler's real name is Edward Nygma who was an absolute genius in the fields of computer engineering and electronics. Nobody would argue that he was extremely intelligent but also slightly off his rocker.

As Edward Nygma aged he became more and more obsessed with committing crimes and getting ahead. Resentful of others who seemed to be half as intelligent as he but who enjoyed more success, he slowly drifted into the realm of insanity. Thus was born the Riddler.

The Riddler employed his genius intellect to design a host of evil gadgets and gizmos that added physical firepower to his already impressive arsenal of intellect. His trademark weapon was the infamous cane in the shape of his trademark "?" symbol.

The Riddler made his first appearance in the Comic book world in 1948 and has been defeated by the Batman a number of times ever since. His constant pattern of being defeated has only served to drive him even more insane and obsessed with finding a riddle that Batman is incapable of solving.

So far he has yet to accomplish that.
